01Overview

Suspended Cymbals is built around five cymbals: three Zildjian, one Paiste and one Istanbul. Each offers a different tonal character, and they can be layered together. The instrument is sampled from three microphone positions, which can be mixed on separate channels in your DAW. The developer describes the mod wheel as the way to shape roll intensity, so rolls can follow the feel of a track rather than running for a fixed time.

Sound, Articulations and Mic Mixing

Each cymbal is sampled with five articulations: sustains, bell, edge, mod-wheel controlled rolls and effects. Wavesfactory recorded three mic positions: a close Neumann KM184, a mid-distance pair of Neumann TLM 103 microphones in XY, and a binaural Neumann KU-100 at the back of the room.

The mixer lets you control each position separately, with load/purge switches, pan, volume, mute and solo, stereo width from full stereo to mono, and an output selector for routing the channels to your DAW.

Effects and Playability Settings

Wavesfactory's effect script lets you insert an effect chain on each channel. The listed options include EQ, several compressor types, chorus, flanger and phaser, distortion, saturation and tape emulation, algorithmic and convolution reverb with more than 40 custom impulse responses, and amp simulators.

The settings page covers round robin selection, which uses four true round-robin repetitions and purges unused ones to reduce RAM use, along with dynamic range, velocity curve, voicing, envelope and per-articulation volumes.
