01Overview

Demonic Virtuoso is a Kontakt instrument built around the harpsichord, a keyboard instrument central to Renaissance and Baroque music. Wavesfactory recorded the library with three microphone positions, labeled close, mid and far, so you can blend between a direct, detailed tone and a more spacious room sound. The instrument is sampled with four round-robin repetitions and every note is sampled, with no pitch shifting.

Mixer and Microphone Positions

Demonic Virtuoso includes a full mixer that controls the three microphone positions separately. Wavesfactory describes the close position as recorded with two Neumann KM184 microphones placed right above the pick, the mid position with two AKG 414 at a mid distance, and the far position with two spaced Neumann TLM 103 at the back of the room.

Each channel has its own load and purge switch, pan, volume, mute and solo controls, and a stereo width control that ranges from full stereo to mono. An output selector lets you send the channels to separate outputs for mixing in your DAW.

Effects and Round Robin Settings

A built-in effect script lets you insert an effect chain on each channel separately. Available processing includes a high-quality EQ, several compressor types, chorus, flanger and phaser modulation, distortion, saturation and tape emulation, algorithmic and convolution reverb with more than 40 custom impulse responses, and amp simulators.

The settings page covers round robin selection, which lets you pick how many of the four repetitions stay in memory to reduce RAM use. A dynamic range control adds velocity-based dynamics, which are off by default because the harpsichord has no dynamic range. Velocity curve, release sample volume and sample start offset are also adjustable.
