01Overview

Mercury Lite is a lighter edition of the Mercury piano library, which is based on a Fazioli F228 recorded at Metropolis Studios in London. The developer says it keeps the sound and expressive range of the full Mercury instrument. Samples from the five microphone positions are merged into one file, and the library includes 2x round-robin, eight velocity layers and four built-in effects. Sound and Character of the Fazioli Piano

Wavesfactory describes the Fazioli F228 as delicate in touch but with a rich low end and strong body resonance. The library was recorded by Paul B. Norris with five mic positions, from ultra-close to room sound.

The developer says the piano can sound warm and emotional on soft passages, and punchy on high velocities. Eight velocity layers help the instrument respond across that range.

Sympathetic resonance, soft pedalling, una corda, sostenuto and micro tuning are included for more detailed control of the instrument.

Interface, Effects and Workflow

The mixer lets you adjust each microphone position separately, including a mixing approach Wavesfactory calls "position enhanced." The effects page offers four DSP effects designed for piano: Metropolis Plates, a compressor, a tilt EQ and a chorus.

The settings panel covers round-robin count, sympathetic resonance and pedal noise. Because all mic positions are merged into one file, the library needs fewer voices in Kontakt than the multi-file version.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What do I need to use Mercury Lite?

Mercury Lite requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.7.3 or later. It will not run in full inside the free Kontakt Player; in that engine it only works in demo mode.

Which format does Mercury Lite come in?

Mercury Lite is provided as a Kontakt instrument. It includes NKS support, so it can be used with NKS-compatible hosts.

How big is Mercury Lite?

The library is about 3.59 GB and contains 4,784 samples. The developer says merging the mic positions reduces disk use compared with the full Mercury library.

How does Mercury Lite differ from the full Mercury library?

Wavesfactory says Mercury Lite merges all mic positions into one file at unity gain, while Mercury Pro offers separate mic positions. The developer says the Lite version keeps the same effects and settings as the pro version, with 2x round-robin repetitions.
