PMC60 Lexicon PCM-60 reverb plugin interface by Rave Generation

PMC60: Lexicon PCM-60 Digital Reverb Plugin by Rave Generation

PMC60 is a reverb plugin from Rave Generation that emulates the Lexicon PCM-60 Digital Reverberator, a studio reverb from the early 1980s. It reproduces the original program structures and processing behaviour rather than using a generic room or plate algorithm.

01Overview

PMC60 is built around the Lexicon PCM-60, a hardware reverb that became a studio staple in the early 1980s. Rave Generation models the unit's program structures and processing behaviour, aiming for the depth, density and decay that made the original recognizable. Around that core, the plugin adds modern tools such as tempo-synced pre-delay, RT Extend and built-in ducking, so it can sit in a current session while keeping the character of the hardware.

Sound and Character of the PCM-60 Emulation

PMC60 offers eight program banks in two families, Room and Plate, each with four size settings from Small to Large. The range runs from tight ambience for percussion to long plate-style tails.

The internal processing follows the original 24 kHz operating rate and converts to and from your session rate. Input anti-alias, DAC reconstruction and output low-pass stages are modeled to match the darker bandwidth of the original unit.

Bass and Treble switches shape decay and output tone. The developer describes the result as warm and slightly dark, which can help a reverb sit back in a mix.

Workflow: Tempo Sync, Ducking and Level Controls

Pre-delay goes up to 250 ms and can be locked to host tempo. A metronome toggle lets you set divisions from 1/2 down to 1/64T, including dotted and triplet values.

RT Extend pushes feedback beyond the factory Reverb Time presets for longer tails. A separate Tone Tilt EQ on the input darkens or brightens the signal entering the reverb.

Duck Amount and Duck Time reduce the reverb tail while the dry input is loud and let it return in quieter passages, without an external sidechain. Input, Mix and Output controls make the plugin practical on aux sends or as a track insert.
