01Overview

Skaka focuses on one job: shaker and percussion patterns that feel played rather than programmed. Each of its 12 slots holds a separate instrument, parameter set and pattern, so you can layer several shaker parts in one plugin. The developer built both the sequencer and the sampler specifically for these sounds. The plugin is available in VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS.

Shaker Sounds and Sampling Detail

Skaka includes 18 shaker-family instruments, among them Egg, Shaker, Tambourine, Caxixi, Single Shot, Ghungroos and Calabash & Seeds. Each instrument is built from 8 or 9 velocity layers, with more than 30 round-robins per layer, which means thousands of samples are used across the library. The round-robins help avoid the repetitive sound that often appears in sampled percussion.

A high-quality reverb and a room simulator sit on the output, giving the sounds a sense of space. A high-shelf filter is also included for tone shaping.

Pattern Editing and Humanizing

Each event in a pattern has its own velocity, duration, pitch and gain. Patterns can snap to a range of grids, including triplet, quintuplet and septuplet divisions, or ignore the grid entirely. Loop length can be set per pattern, and shuffle and swing amounts are adjustable.

The humanizer adds customizable micro-variations to the timing and dynamics, and a global delay control lets you push or pull the whole pattern for a different feel. The plugin also includes a wide range of presets covering most genres and styles, which gives you a starting point before you edit.
