01Overview

Session Horns Pro is a sampled horn instrument built for Kontakt. It gives producers ten horns that can be combined into sections of up to six instruments, along with pre-arranged section presets for common styles. The instrument was created in partnership with e-instruments, a developer known for detailed sampled instruments. It is aimed at producers who want realistic horn parts without recording a live section, and who want a playable interface that works across different skill levels.

Building Horn Sections in Kontakt

The instrument includes three saxophones, two trombones, three trumpets, a tuba and a flugelhorn. You can start from one of 38 pre-arranged section presets covering popular styles, or build your own section from up to six instruments split into four voices.

Each instrument can also be played solo. Individual levels and panning can be set per instrument, and each voice has its own compression and EQ, with reverb and delay available for sweetening the section.

Sample Library, Playback Modes and Effects

The library is about 30 GB and includes 34 articulations, up to four round robins, up to four velocity layers and true vibrato samples. The Animator provides more than 200 ready-to-play riffs, triggered up to six at a time via keyswitch.

Smart Voice Split assigns each note to the appropriate instrument, and Legato Mode is designed to mimic real performance technique. On the master channel, you get compression, EQ, tape saturation, a lowpass filter and a 'twang' amp simulation for mix glue.
