Quantum is a transient shaper plugin from Wavesfactory. It automatically detects transients in a signal and splits the sound into an attack path and a sustain path, so each can be processed separately. Its built-in effects suite includes 16 DSP effects that can be applied to either path, including EQ, compression, reverb, delay and saturation. Quantum is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats for 64-bit hosts on macOS and Windows.

Smart transient detection and sound

Quantum uses automatic transient detection rather than a threshold you set on every track. The developer says this produces more natural results than methods that can sound digital or artifact-heavy.

With the attack and sustain split, you can adjust the level of each part with the main volume controls. Wavesfactory describes the plugin as a broader toolkit than a standard transient shaper, letting you EQ transients, reduce plosives on vocals only, or add reverb just to the attack of drums.

Effects, workflow and presets

The built-in suite covers 16 effects, among them a compressor, convolution with an included impulse response collection, a five-band parametric EQ, a pitch shifter and a 2-band Spectre enhancer. Each effect can be added, bypassed, removed or reordered.

The interface uses clearly separated sections so controls stay visible, and the window can be resized from the bottom right corner. Quantum includes a preset system with factory presets and save, save as and delete options, plus global mix and output volume controls.
