01Overview

PSP Wobbler is a 64-bit effect plugin built around frequency shifting rather than conventional delay-based modulation. The developer says it was made in collaboration with recording engineer Alan Parsons and recreates the sound of the Frequency Translator, an experimental hardware device associated with the modulation heard on Pink Floyd's "Time." It offers a free trial, and it runs in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX hosts.

Wobble Sound and Character

The core of PSP Wobbler is a frequency shift of up to ±25 Hz. The shift creates non-harmonic phase differences, which produce a wobble that blends phasing, flanging and a rotating-speaker feel. Wobble amount is set with the wet/dry mix, so you can move from subtle motion to a strong effect.

Drive and Age controls add saturation and character to the processed signal. Ageing modes let you apply Drive and Age to the wet signal alone or to both wet and dry signals, which changes how the effect sits in the mix.

Separate controls for Feedback, thermal and voltage Drift, Phase and stereo Spread give you more ways to shape the movement. Adjustable lower and upper limits set the frequency range the effect acts on.

Tempo Sync and Workflow

You can set the frequency shift manually or lock it to a clock division of your DAW tempo. Shifts can follow tempo changes through a project, or stay at a fixed amount throughout a song, which is useful when you need the modulation to hold steady across sections.

Because the wobble is controlled through a single wet/dry mix, it is straightforward to automate the amount of the effect over a track while keeping the other settings in place.
