01Overview

PSP 608MD is a delay effect built around independent taps. Each tap has its own gain, stereo width and balance, delay time, filter, modulation, saturation and reverb settings. Delay time can be set in milliseconds or locked to a chosen note value, with up to 8 seconds per channel. Three operation modes change how feedback behaves across the taps, and the plugin supports sample rates up to 384 kHz with full host automation of its processing parameters.

Best for

  • Rhythmic multi-tap delays
  • Sound design textures
  • Dub-style feedback effects
  • Mix send delays
  • Filter-swept echoes

Sound Design Options for Multi-Tap Delay

The plugin offers three operation modes. In MULTIDELAY, each tap has its own feedback buffer. In MULTITAP, the master feedback works on one tap that you choose. In MULTIFB, muting a tap leaves its feedback buffer active, so its repeats keep decaying after you turn it off.

Each tap can use a biquad filter in Low Pass, Band Pass, High Pass, Peak or one of four Shelf types. The feedback path has its own LP/BP/HP filter with adjustable cutoff and resonance, and it can be set to a State Variable or Biquad design. An LFO and an envelope follower provide modulation with a depth of ±3 octaves, and they can also drive filter cutoff.

Saturation, Reverb and Tape Character

Each tap includes a tape saturation stage with adjustable gain. PSP says the algorithm is based on the one used in its mastering processors. A separate vintage reverb module is intended to simulate spring and plate reverbs, so each tap can have its own space in the repeats.

The PSP Audioware site describes the feedback and drive as placeable at the start or end of the signal chain, which changes how the repeats are colored. Because all processing parameters are host-automatable, these changes can be drawn over time in your DAW.
