Mastering and mixing controls in one plugin

The installer includes two versions of the processor. PSP MasterComp is aimed at mastering compression and expansion. It offers a wide set of mastering controls, advanced side-chain filtering, channel linking and compression tilting. A Mix control blends the processed and clean signal, and an optional brick-wall output limiter with automatic release time can be switched on. Channel processing can be set to Mid, Side, Left, Right or Stereo.

PSP MicroComp is the mixing version. It has a simpler control layout and a CPU-efficient algorithm, with basic side-chain filtering and channel linking. Both versions include PPM and VU meters with contextual readings and adjustable parameters.

Sound and typical uses

According to PSP Audioware, the optional Smooth Level Detector algorithm helps keep distortion low. Automatic attack and release options are available on MasterComp, and automatic release on MicroComp. Over-threshold compression and expansion are supported.

Typical applications include controlling or revitalizing the dynamics of a final mix during mastering, shaping the dynamics of main tracks, groups and full mixes during mixing, getting classic analog-style smooth compression, and restoring transients.
