01Overview

PSP StereoController2 is aimed at producers who need to fix or shape the stereo image of a two-channel recording. Typical problems include unbalanced level between channels in dual-microphone recordings, small timing offsets, and a center element that sits off to one side. The plugin also handles more deliberate jobs, such as separately widening high frequencies or making low frequencies mono before cutting vinyl or feeding a subwoofer. It is an effects plugin in the stereo width category.

Best for

  • Dual-mic stereo repair
  • Narrow stereo widening
  • Vinyl mono bass cutting
  • Mid-side decoding
  • Mastering stereo fine-tuning
  • Subwoofer low-end mono

Stereo Correction and Repair Tools

PSP StereoController2 addresses common stereo recording faults. Its delay control offers up to 2 ms, which the developer says can compensate for roughly 68 cm (2 ft) of distance mismatch between microphones. A channel balance control, polarity switches for each channel and a channel swap function cover level differences, reversed phase and swapped outputs.

A center control moves the panorama position of the center content, while a stability control balances the sides without changing where the center sits. Together these help when a central instrument appears shifted to one side of the mix.

Width Control and Frequency-Specific Processing

The width section can expand a narrowly recorded stereo track by up to 400 percent. A master gain control reaches ±12 dB, and the plugin includes separate low and high bands with gain control of up to ±6 dB and optional dedicated width and gain controls for each band.

This split lets you narrow the low end for mono-compatible bass while widening the highs for a more open top end. An M-S decoder, with separate monitoring and solo of the Mid and Side signals, helps when working with mid-side encoded material. A correlation meter and a balance meter show the stereo relationship while you adjust.
