Phalanx: Drum and Synth Sampler by Vengeance Sound

Phalanx offers 32 stereo sample slots arranged in 16 channels, and each channel can be routed to up to 16 individual outputs. The engine provides 128 voices, with up to 16 voices per pad. Each pad has 12 filter types at 6, 12 and 24 dB slope options, poly and legato portamento modes, and a four-band parametric EQ. Envelopes for amp, filter, pitch and a mod envelope are editable and can be synced to BPM.

For sound shaping beyond the pads, the Insert FX section offers 17 effect types that can be arranged by drag and drop, and the reverb is by ArtsAcoustic. Two independent LFOs per sample slot and a MIDI-learn mod matrix let you route nearly any control to nearly any parameter.

Phalanx can switch between drumkit mode and sample mode. Drumkit mode includes kill notes, so a closed hi-hat can cut off a fading open hi-hat. Slim mode displays all 16 pads at once, while full mode offers complete editability.

The loop section supports playing backward and forward in time, freezing time, micro-loops controlled by the mod wheel, and crossfade looping. The retrigger feature can accelerate samples to self-oscillation so they can be played tonally, and the developer references its use with pitch bend or a MIDI controller for turntable-style scratch simulation. An arpeggiator is also included.
