01Overview

Motto Akemie is built around six FM drum voices modeled on the Akemie's Taiko Eurorack module, with similar controls. Each voice can range from pure sine-based tones to heavy clonks and self-feedbacking, enveloped noise. Alongside the synth is a built-in multitrack step sequencer for building polyrhythmic patterns, with step modulation for all voice parameters. The plugin works as a standard DAW instrument and supports chromatic playing and MIDI control.

FM Drum Voices and Sound Character

Each of the six voices is based on the Taiko design and uses dual operators with the Taiko controls and wavetables. The developer describes the range as playful FM sounds, from pure sinusoidal oscillations to mega clonks and chaotic, self-feedbacking noise.

Voices can also be played chromatically, so the drum voices can be used melodically or for tuned percussion. Microtuning is supported through MTS-ESP, which lets you work with alternative tunings.

Step Sequencer and Pattern Workflow

Every voice has its own step sequencer with variable sequence length and speed, which makes polyrhythmic patterns straightforward to build. Per-step modulation sequencers cover all voice parameters, and each voice has mute, solo and level controls.

Track randomise and clear controls speed up pattern ideas. Sixteen pattern banks let you copy, save and load patterns. Patterns can be dragged from the sequencer as MIDI into a .mid file, and each voice can be automated and controlled over its own MIDI channel. Multi-channel DAW output allows the voices to be routed separately.
