01Overview

Model 80 Five Voice Synthesizer is a software recreation of a five-voice polyphonic analog synth first released in 1980. Softube say they modeled the circuit, voice interactions and performance of the original unit. The plugin also keeps the original factory presets, so you can recall the sounds heard on many classic recordings. Two versions are included: the instrument itself and a five-module set for Modular.

Sound, Voice Mod and Performance

Softube say the five voices and their relationship are replicated to reproduce the analog character of the original hardware. The Voice Mod section has been modeled with attention to phase relationships and modulation polarity, which the developer says are needed to capture the original sound and modulation behavior.

For performance, the plugin adds poly-portamento glide, Voice Pan Spread, velocity and aftertouch modulation, and DAW sync. An Aging knob and an Invert Voice Mod button extend the original design, so the Voice Mod section can go beyond what the hardware could do.

Modular Version and Workflow

Model 80 for Modular provides five modules: VCO, VCF, LFO, ENV and MULTIPAN. You can combine them in a modular workflow to build patches. Softube say this lets you create combinations that the original hardware could not produce.

The 40 original factory presets can be recalled through the on-screen programmer, which Softube designed to mirror the buttons on the hardware.
