Sound and Character of the Plexi Model

The plugin models a Marshall Plexi Super Lead built in 1967, which Softube says it modeled component by component. Two channels, a lead and a rhythm, each offer high and low gain inputs. These can be combined, or jumped, to cover a range from clean-leaning crunch to high-gain lead tones.

The cabinet responses were recorded at Kore Studios with a 1960BHW cabinet. The developer says the sound is designed to be mix-ready, with the microphone choices and placements set by Tony Platt.

Channel Strip and Mic Workflow

The side panel gives access to the microphone mix. Each setting uses three separate mics, two close and one room, so you can blend the recorded positions to shape the cabinet sound.

The Channel Strip includes pan, volume and solo controls for each mic, plus a two-band Main Out EQ. This lets you balance the mics and tone-shape the output inside the plugin without an extra EQ, though the controls are limited to the two-band EQ.
