Grand El Campanil Piano: Baldwin Grand Piano Kontakt Instrument by Soundiron

The piano is a full-sized Baldwin grand, and Soundiron captured it with four microphone positions. The close Hammer position uses a pair of Neumann TLM 107 microphones for detail and presence. The Overhead position, about 8 feet away, uses a pair of Neumann KM 183 omni microphones for a broad stereo field with a hint of hall reflection.

The Hall position sits about 60 feet from the piano in a wide AB stereo array, offering an audience-style perspective. The Ghosts mix is a sound-designed blend from a distant pair of TLM 103 microphones at the back of the house, nearly 120 feet away. The developer suggests it suits long, slow, melancholic passages.

The Kontakt interface offers multi-layer controls for swell, attack, release, offset, vibrato, filter, coarse and fine pitch, articulation switching, cross-fading, and layering. An LFO section provides selectable shapes, targets, speed, intensity, tempo sync, and fade-in time.

The arpeggiator includes a velocity table and control over direction, timing, swing, randomization, and duration. A key and scale lock constrains notes to common scales. The FX rack holds eight slots for 27 DSP modules, and the convolution reverb includes 99 rooms, halls, chambers, and outdoor environments plus 40 custom FX impulses.
