GLAZE is part of Native Instruments' Play Series and is designed to add a glossy vocal layer to a track without recording a singer. The instrument was made from live vocal sessions with a varied group of vocalists, so its sounds stay close to natural voice. Macro controls let you shape a preset quickly, and a Riffs and Runs feature maps vocal phrases to a scale so you can play them from a keyboard.

GLAZE covers a range of vocal textures, with 148 presets split across chords, leads, basses, pads, riffs and runs. Native Instruments describes the sound as high-gloss, which suits polished pop vocals, smooth R&B harmonies and the stacked textures common in hip hop.

Because the samples come from live singers rather than synthesized tones, the presets keep the breath and articulation of a human voice. That makes them useful as background layers, harmony beds or lead hooks.

Playing Riffs and Runs in Kontakt

The Riffs and Runs feature is the core workflow feature of GLAZE. Vocal phrases are mapped to a scale, so played notes trigger natural-sounding vocal runs in the key you are working in.

The macro controls give you fast access to the main shaping parameters, so you can adjust a preset in real time while you play or record. The instrument runs inside Kontakt, so it fits into an existing Kontakt-based setup.
