01Overview

Frahm treats the movement of simulated particles as sound sources placed in three-dimensional space. Lese built the plugin on a particle-based force-field system, so the spatial motion is generated by algorithms rather than by manual panning alone. Ten force-field algorithms are available, each with its own parameters, and two can be crossfaded for more complex results. Several instances can be layered in a DAW to build detailed soundscapes in real time.

Force-Field Algorithms and Spatial Movement

The core of Frahm is its force-field particle system. Each algorithm takes a particle's position and returns a direction for it to move in, and the particle is nudged along that path. Ten algorithms are included, and each has parameters that change how it behaves. A crossfade system lets you blend between two algorithms, which widens the range of movements you can create.

Beyond the per-algorithm parameters, Frahm offers meta parameters that control movement speed, the movement basis (the axis particles travel along) and simulation size.

Spatial Modes, Doppler Shift and Viewport

Frahm can run its spatial engine in stereo mode for conventional speaker setups, or in binaural and HQ binaural modes for headphone listening. An accelerated doppler shift processor applies the effect to every particle.

The interface is vectorized and resizable. An OpenGL 3D viewport shows how particles move, and a Force Field display mode in the viewport options shows the movement that will occur at different particle positions. The internal audio buffer can be resized, frozen and altered in real time.
