01Overview

FilterBank HD v7 gathers several EQ designs into one plugin from McDSP. The developer says it can emulate a range of equalizers, from tube-driven to solid-state and vintage to modern, while giving you direct control over filter design and key equalizer parameters. Its bands cover shelving, parametric bell, lowpass and highpass slopes, and bandpass and band reject filtering. McDSP describes it as a set of three plugins, including a console-style parametric model, a steep highpass and lowpass model, and a parametric EQ with variable Q modes. It runs in AAX DSP, AAX Native, AU, and VST3 hosts on Windows and macOS.

Filter Shapes and Parametric Control

The parametric EQ offers a frequency range from 20Hz to 21kHz, with bell bands up to five octaves wide and gain of plus or minus 12dB. Constant-Q technology keeps the bandwidth consistent as you adjust gain. The Q range runs from 0.2 to 12.0, so you can work with broad tonal shaping or narrow cuts.

For filtering, the lowpass and highpass filters have adjustable slope and a resonant peak greater than 24 dB. High and low shelving EQ bands give independent control of frequency, gain, peak, slope, and dip. Bandpass and band reject filters are also included.

Saturation and Processing Details

Each EQ and filter band includes analog saturation modeling, which the developer says helps prevent digital clipping. The plugin uses zero latency algorithms and double precision processing.

FilterBank supports up to 48 EQ and filter bands per MIX DSP, and the interfaces have been redesigned in high definition. McDSP notes optimization for Apple Silicon and the latest Intel processors.
