01Overview

EQ65 is built around the Urei 565, a filter set long used by audio engineers to reduce or remove selected frequencies from a recording. Eventide's version brings that analog filter character into a plugin. Its two notch and band pass filters help you locate a problem frequency, then narrow it out with very tight Q settings. Alongside them sit steep 36 dB/octave high pass and low pass filters, giving you control over both ends of the spectrum.

Finding and removing unwanted frequencies

The two filters switch between band pass and notch modes. Eventide suggests a clear workflow: set the filter to band pass to hear and isolate the frequency that bothers you, then switch to notch to cut it. Very narrow Q settings let the notch remove a resonance or harsh tone while leaving the surrounding material largely intact. Depth controls can attenuate the target frequency in steps rather than a single fixed cut.

An In/Out switch with indicator makes it easy to check the difference against the unprocessed signal.

High pass and low pass filtering with analog character

Beyond the notch and band pass stages, EQ65 provides high pass and low pass filters with a steep 36 dB/octave slope. Steep slopes like these are useful for removing rumble below the musical range or taming high-frequency content above it.

The plugin also includes several instrument and special effect presets, which give a starting point for sound design as well as corrective work.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What is the EQ65 based on?

EQ65 is a recreation of the Urei 565 filter set, a classic filter used to de-emphasize or remove selected frequencies in audio recordings.

What is the difference between the band pass and notch modes?

Band pass mode isolates a frequency so you can hear what you want to remove. Notch mode cuts that frequency, and narrow Q settings let you target it precisely.

Which formats and operating systems does EQ65 support?

EQ65 is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows 10 and later, including Windows 11, and on macOS 10.14 and later, with Intel and Apple Silicon supported. Both systems require 64-bit hosts.

What do I need to use EQ65?

EQ65 requires a compatible DAW or host application. No iLok dongle is needed, but a free iLok account and Manager are required for authorization.
