01Overview

K7D - Tape Delay recreates the character of vintage tape delay machines with a modern control layout. Imaginando built its dual playhead delay around analog modeling, adding noise, tape distortion and mechanical vibration models. Pre-amp saturation and gain staging shape the input, while the feedback path offers high pass and low pass filtering. The plugin runs in VST3, VST2 and AU formats and includes a factory soundbank with 50 presets.

Best for

  • Vintage tape echo
  • Stereo ping pong delays
  • Dub-style effects
  • Modulated delay textures
  • Tempo-synced rhythmic echoes

Analog Tape Character and Delay Controls

The core of K7D is a dual playhead delay covering 1 ms to 1 second. Each playhead carries its own modeling of noise, tape distortion and mechanical vibration, so the repeats can sit anywhere from clean to heavily worn.

The input stage adds pre-amp saturation, and the developer says the gain staging and saturation algorithms were optimized for musical results. A high pass and a low pass filter on the feedback path let you thin out or darken each repeat as it recirculates.

Normal and Ping Pong modes cover the common stereo arrangements. A delay time spread between the heads and a stereo width control help you set how far the echoes spread across the field.

Modulation, Sync and Visualization

The LFO applies bipolar time modulation with sine, triangular, saw, square, sample and hold and filtered sample and hold waveforms. You can invert the LFO phase on the second playhead for extra stereo imaging.

Delay time can sync to BPM, and it can also be modulated from incoming MIDI notes, which lets the delay follow the pitch information of a part.

An oscilloscope view displays both the audio and the LFO waveforms, so you can see the modulation as you adjust it.
