01Overview

Discoteca Drums focuses on the drum sound of 1980s Italo disco. Its kits are built around punchy kicks, crisp snares, shimmering hi-hats and dynamic percussion, with a retro-futuristic character. The library is part of Native Instruments' Play Series, so each kit comes with real-time controls for shaping the sound. It was created in collaboration with producer and sound engineer Alexkid, with additional content by Lauer, Freudenthal, Cook Strummer, Okain and John Valasis.

03In depth

Italo disco drum sounds and character

The sounds are drawn from the drum machines associated with Italo disco. Native Instruments describes the kits as reimagined for current productions, keeping the nostalgic feel while giving the drums more punch.

The library includes kicks, snares, hi-hats and percussion, so you can build a full retro drum groove from one instrument. Because the kits are grouped into 30 curated sets, you can audition complete combinations before editing individual hits.

Workflow with Kontakt and MIDI patterns

Discoteca Drums runs in Kontakt, and the free Kontakt Player is enough to load it. The Play Series interface gives you focused real-time controls, so you can shape a kit without digging through deep menus.

MIDI patterns are included for fast starting points. You can use them as they are or change them to fit your arrangement, which makes the library practical for both quick sketches and finished tracks.
