01Overview

RetroMod LoFreq Modern is a sample-based instrument collection built around a set of modern hardware synths. The developer says the instruments were recorded with meticulous sampling so the originals' feel carries over into the plugin. On top of the recordings, a secondary multimode resonant filter, a second oscillator and an XY Pad let you shape the sound. Sound Character and Sampled Instruments

The collection covers 11 instruments, among them the Waldorf Pulse, Waldorf Pulse 2, DSI Evolver, MFB Synth II, Arturia MiniBrute and Behringer Model D. Each one was sampled through a set of audio interfaces and preamps, including Avalon U5, A-Design Reddi, Universal Audio 2192 and RME ADI-2.

The developer describes the result as the original feel with a contemporary twist, coming mainly from the secondary multimode resonant filter. The second oscillator adds thickness to the sound.

The XY Pad lets you add either subtle or more aggressive coloration to the source sound.

Workflow, Voices and Arpeggiator

The plugin offers up to 16 voices of unison, which is useful for wide leads and layered pads. An integrated arpeggiator generates rhythmic patterns directly inside the instrument, so you can build pulsing basses or moving pad textures without a separate MIDI effect.
