Sound Engine and Synthesis Methods

BLUE-III uses six oscillators with algorithm control for FM synthesis and other routing combinations. Oscillator sources include analog-modeled waveforms, spectrum waveforms, Karplus-Strong string models, and samples. Granular processing is available on a selection of samples.

The filter section offers two filters with serial or parallel routing. Filter types include high-pass, low-pass, band-pass and notch designs in several slopes, plus comb, vocal, formant, ring modulation and frequency shift options. Rob Papen says the audio engine borrows from his B.I.T. virtual analog synthesizer.

Modulation, Play Modes and Effects

Modulation tools include an XY pad with recording and tempo-based options, four multi-envelopes with up to 15 sections, 14 LFOs with default destinations, four free LFOs, a modulation sequencer and a modulation matrix with an advanced mode.

Play modes cover 16-voice polyphony, MPE poly mode, mono and legato variants, portamento, a 32-step arpeggiator and a 32-step monophonic sequencer. Four effect slots offer 34 effect types, each with two modulation slots.
