01Overview

BIT-2 is Rob Papen's analog-focused synthesizer. Where other Rob Papen synths blend analog modeling with hybrid synthesis, BIT-2 concentrates on analog-modeled sound design. The developer built it around the idea that classic analog synthesis still has its own character. Each voice combines two oscillators, a noise source, two filters, an envelope-driven amplifier, a 16-step arpeggiator and sequencer, and built-in effects. Over 1500 presets are included as starting points.

Oscillators, Filters and Sound Character

BIT-2 has two oscillators. Each includes classic waveforms and a Tuned Noise option, and the second oscillator adds a sub-oscillator with sine, square and saw shapes. Super Saw 1/2/3 and Super Square 1/2/3 waveforms generate a three-oscillator sound inside a single oscillator, which adds width and density.

Oscillator 2 can be modulated by Oscillator 1 in FM, PM or ring mode, and it can also sync to Oscillator 1. A dedicated noise oscillator offers white and pink noise. The two analog-modeled filters offer 38 different character types and modes, with serial, split-oscillator and split-noise routing.

Modulation, Arpeggiator and Performance Controls

Instead of patch cables, BIT-2 uses a modulation matrix. An advanced panel below the oscillators, opened with the ADV switch, lets you quickly route an LFO and an envelope to oscillator parameters.

The ARP/SEQ section has 16 steps, many modes and an automatable loop-start and step-count feature. A Magic mode adds intelligent variations to the pattern. The play modes include Poly, Poly MPE, Mono and Legato, with many unison options. A ribbon controller with tempo-synced spring-back, quantized spring-back and unipolar or bipolar operation lets you change several parameters at once with the mouse or an external MIDI controller.

What formats and operating systems does BIT-2 support?

BIT-2 is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows and macOS and is a 64-bit plugin.

What do I need to run BIT-2?

On Windows, BIT-2 supports Windows 7 or higher, with AAX for Pro Tools 12 or higher. On Mac, it supports OS X 10.13 or higher and is compatible with M1 ARM processors. The activation system is offline, and the software can be installed on two of your own computers. NI NKS support is planned.
