01Overview

Spinal Vibe works as a rotary modulator rather than a straight speaker simulator. Each of its up to three speakers can be set independently for speed, acceleration and deceleration, and the rotation can follow the host tempo. Blue Cat Audio notes that the plugin focuses on the effects produced by rotation itself. Because it does not add distortion or a speaker cabinet model, it is designed to be paired with another tool when those characteristics are needed.

Rotation Control and Sound Shaping

Spinal Vibe gives you a slow and a fast speed, with a control to move between them, plus a brake that stops the rotation instantly. Acceleration and deceleration are set per speaker, so each rotor can respond at its own pace.

For each speaker you can adjust the amount of Doppler, tremolo and filter effects, along with its volume, phase and rotation direction. Independent stereo control and adjustable crossover frequency and slope let you shape how each speaker contributes to the final sound.

Mixing the dry signal with the rotated signals creates phasing and modulation effects through phase cancellation.

Workflow and Host Integration

The rotation can be synced to the host tempo, which keeps speed changes locked to the arrangement. The plugin is available in VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS, and is listed as 64-bit.

Blue Cat Audio states that the plugin uses multicore processing to reduce CPU load. Its feature set covers a wide range of modulation effects produced by the rotation of several sound sources.
