01Overview

Blue Cat's MB-7 Mixer divides a track into up to seven frequency bands, each with its own level, panning and stereo width controls. Each band can be bypassed, muted or soloed to isolate the frequencies you want to work on. The plugin also works as a multiband host, so you can insert third-party VST, VST3 and Audio Unit plugins on individual bands. Developer Blue Cat Audio positions it for multiband mixing, mastering and creative sidechain processing.

Multiband Mixing and Stereo Control

Each band of the MB-7 Mixer has the controls you would expect from a mixing console: gain, pan and stereoness. Crossover filters from 12 to 192 dB per octave set the separation between bands. The Dual Mode lets you control left and right channels independently, or mid and side channels, which is useful for stereo placement and widening.

A master mono switch lets you check how the mix collapses to mono. Real-time response curves, a spectrogram and level meters for each band show what the processing is doing as you adjust it.

Multiband VST Hosting and Sidechaining

Blue Cat Audio describes the MB-7 Mixer as a multiband host. You can load VST, VST3 and AU plugins on each band, pre or post-fader, with full latency compensation. Parameter mapping lets you automate sub-plugin parameters or control them from a control surface.

External sidechain support on each band enables multiband compression, ducking and gating. Flexible routing lets you send sub-plugin inputs and outputs to any audio channel for multi-mono effects.
