01Overview

Tina Guo Vol 2 is a sample library built around the cello playing of Tina Guo, recorded at the MGM Scoring Stage in Los Angeles. Cinesamples describes it as a companion to the original Acoustic Cello Legato library, played on the same instrument and recorded with the same microphones. Where the first library leans toward a romantic, espressivo style with longer melodic lines, Vol 2 favors faster, more connected playing and includes more articulations. The library is built for Kontakt and is scripted for NKS.

Playing Style and Articulations in Tina Guo Vol 2

The main difference from the original library is playing style. Cinesamples says Vol 2 allows for an agile, more connected style of playing, and that faster playing leaves less time for vibrato on passing notes.

The Legato articulation allows monophonic voicing with recorded legato transitions, while unselected it uses polyphonic sustain samples only. The Legato Speed control (CC02) sets how fast you can play: higher values allow faster passages, and lower values reveal more of the recorded transition. Bow changes can be left natural or extended, and Attack Overlay adds a staccato attack to sustain beginnings that appears at higher velocities.

Mini Phrases, Effects and Granular Controls

The patch includes cello effects and improvisation phrases in each key, in major and minor modes. Red keyswitches toggle between tonal and non-tonal samples, green keyswitches select the tonal center, and violet keyswitches switch between major and minor.

The Granular button replaces normal playback with streams of small grains starting from the playhead. Speed controls how quickly the playhead moves through the sample, Density sets grains per second (high values may overload the CPU), and Randomize varies playhead position, grain panning and microtuning.
