01Overview

Aevium is a sample-based instrument library for Kontakt, developed with BOOM Library and sound designed by Soundiron. The raw material is the Birds Of Prey sound effects collection, which captures owls, eagles, crows, hawks, falcons and vultures. Soundiron stretched, modulated and resynthesized those recordings into more than 20 categories of sustains, staccatos, basses, leads and FX. The result is a library suited to producers who want organic, unusual timbres in place of standard synth sounds.

Sound Design and Character

Soundiron built Aevium from a wide range of raw bird recordings, then warped, stretched, glitched and overdrove them into playable instruments. The developer describes the set as a mix of fierce lead synths and atmospheric pads.

The library includes 1,810 stereo 24-bit, 48 kHz WAV samples spread across more than 400 factory presets. Categories cover classic punchy leads, warm pads, dark drones, bubbling atmospherics and other textures, so the library can cover both melodic and ambient parts.

Layers, XY Pad and Modulation

The interface is built around four layers, each with its own Attack, Release, Offset, Pitch and Pan controls. Every layer has an individual filter with 39 filter types, and modulators include LFO, ADSR and Velocity. Targets include volume, pitch, pan, filter frequency and filter resonance.

The central XY Pad defaults to volume control between the four layers, but each axis can be reassigned to other parameters or some FX. You can add tempo-synced rhythmic motion to the pad and limit its range to create new patterns in tone. A morphing engine and randomize function support fast exploration, and custom presets can be saved, shared, imported and exported.
