01Overview

The AE600 Active EQ Native v7 Upgrade from v6 is aimed at existing McDSP users who already own the v6 version. McDSP describes the AE600 as the next generation of active equalization, with several EQ modes per band and a low-latency algorithm. Each band has its own gain, frequency, Q and mode controls, and bands can be triggered from the input or from a selected side chain. The plugin runs in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats on Windows and macOS.

Active EQ Response and Ratio Control

Each active band's response is set by its threshold, attack and release settings. McDSP adds a ratio control that determines how sensitive the band is to input level, which shapes how quickly the active EQ reaches its maximum effect.

Peak signal readouts beneath the band dynamics plots help set each band's threshold. The active EQ bands can be adjusted directly on the response plot or through the text readouts above and below it.

EQ Modes and Band Control

Every fixed and active band offers its own gain, frequency, Q and mode controls. The developer lists several selectable modes, including parametric, proportional Q parametric, Baxandall shelving, vintage-style, X-style shelving and high and low pass filtering.

Bands overlap fully, and band bypass, band control linking and band key signal monitoring are included for workflow control. Input and output controls complete the interface.
