Sound Types and Preset Breakdown

The 64 presets are weighted toward bass and lead sounds. The pack includes 19 basses and 19 leads, which covers most of the core parts in a typical house or garage track. Stabs make up the next largest group with 9 presets, followed by 8 keys.

The remaining sounds are smaller groups: 4 percussion presets, 2 bells, and one each of pluck, brass and sting. These give you a few accent and texture options beyond the main parts.

The developer describes the basses as pumping and the leads as slick, and says the collection includes classic keys and FX alongside them.

Who the Pack Is For and Its Origin

Dom Kane, who has worked with FXpansion, Loopmasters and Xfer, produced the presets. He was involved in beta testing VirtualCZ from the start and has used the synth on his own releases. Sub Tropics is aimed at producers working in deep house and garage, and the developer says it will also suit any bass-driven production.

Because the presets are built for VirtualCZ, the pack is useful if you already own the synth or plan to buy it. You can start from a preset and adjust the synth's parameters to make new sounds.
