VirtualCZ Expansion Pack: Retro Electro is a preset library for the VirtualCZ phase distortion synthesizer, offering 63 presets across basses, leads, keys, pads, plucks, stings, brass and bells in an 80s retro style.
Retro Electro is the third expansion pack for Plugin Boutique's VirtualCZ phase distortion synth. It is curated by Scott Diaz and focuses on the warm, polyphonic and retro sounds associated with the original CZ synthesizers, which were used on many electro and synth pop records of the 1980s. The pack is organized by sound type, so you can browse basses, leads, keys and pads to find a starting point quickly.
The pack contains 63 presets in eight categories: 13 basses, 15 leads, 11 keys, 12 pads, 8 plucks, 3 stings, 1 brass and 1 bell. The leads and basses make up the largest part of the collection, which suits electro and funk-influenced production.
Scott Diaz describes the selection as fat, warm melodics, neon leads and analog-inspired basses. The presets are meant to showcase where he feels the CZ sound is strongest.
Scott Diaz names electro funk, nu disco, indie dance and retro electronica as the styles the pack is aimed at. It suits producers who want an authentic 80s character without building every patch from scratch.
Because the pack requires the full VirtualCZ synth, it is best suited to users who already work with that instrument or plan to add it to their setup.
