The 70s Drum Sound and How It Was Recorded
The developer built this kit from a 1968 Ludwig Silver Sparkle drum set recorded at Studio INGRID. The drums were tuned and dampened with methods common in the 1970s: the kick was stuffed with a pillow and a large sheet of felt, newspaper was taped to the snare heads, and felt sheets were pinned to the toms.
XLN Audio says it used only microphones from the 1960s and 1970s, including Coles, Neumann, Sennheiser and Bang & Olufsen, routed through the studio's vintage API console. The result is a drum sound described as fat, dry and crisp.
