Digital Degradation and Vintage Sampler Character
KorgDCM8 changes the digital resolution of the input signal in two ways. Reducing the sample rate produces frequency aliasing, and reducing the bit depth produces quantization noise. Together these artifacts give the typical sound of vintage sampling machines.
The included input noise gate is there to keep static analogue noise from being boosted by the degradation process, so the effect stays usable on quieter material.
