01Overview

XY-Transfer applies the XY pad concept from other Rob Papen instruments to audio effects. Each effect block has its own XY field, and the XY movements can be recorded and played back. The effect blocks include a filter bank with 36 filter types, a comb filter, a shaper, a room effect and a gater, and they can be combined in different arrangements. A flexible stereo delay can be placed within these blocks as well, giving producers a wide range of complex and unusual effect chains.

Filter Bank and Effect Blocks

The filter bank is the centerpiece of XY-Transfer, offering 36 different filter types. Each effect is held in a block, and each block has its own XY pad, so you can shape how each effect changes over time rather than setting one static value.

The blocks can be combined in different ways, and the stereo delay can be placed among them. This makes it possible to build layered chains where one effect's movement interacts with another's, which can produce sounds that are hard to achieve with a single effect.

XY Pad Recording and Playback

The XY pads can be recorded and played back, which lets you repeat a movement pattern across a session or refine it later. Rob Papen describes the plugin as a way to transfer audio into something creatively new, and the XY control is the main tool for that.

Because every block has its own pad, you can run several independent movement patterns at the same time within one chain.
