01Overview

X-Hum targets the low-frequency problems that can undermine an otherwise good recording or playback chain. Waves says hum from ground loops, bad connections, nearby transformers and mechanical rumble can all compromise bass response. The plugin is built to address these issues while also letting you set a filter cutoff to remove DC offset without affecting the bass you want to keep.

Best for

  • Low-end rumble cleanup
  • Ground loop noise reduction
  • DC offset removal

Hum Removal With Tuned Notch Filters

X-Hum handles both 50 Hz and 60 Hz mains hum, so it fits recordings made in different regions. Its eight tuned notch filters target the fundamental hum frequency and its harmonics, reducing them by up to -60 dB.

Because the filters are tuned to specific frequencies, they are meant to remove the hum while leaving the surrounding material largely intact. Link controls let you change parameters across filters together, or unlink them to set each one individually.

Rumble Control and DC Offset Filtering

The high-pass filter can be switched between 12 and 24 dB per octave to reduce low-frequency rumble from mechanical sources. Waves also notes that setting the filter cutoff low enough can remove DC offset, which may be eating into headroom at sub-audible frequencies.

Factory presets cover the most common use cases, giving you a starting point before you fine-tune the settings to your material.
