01Overview

Wurlybird 140B is Cherry Audio's first sample-based electro-acoustic instrument. It is built from deep multi-sample programming of a restored Wurlitzer 140B, a model the developer considers one of the strongest in the Wurly family. The instrument includes a modeled preamp, adjustable vibrato and tremolo, background hum control and a set of stompbox-style effects, so producers can work with the sound from the keys through to the final output.

Sample Detail and Key Response

Mike Martin programmed the multi-samples, capturing the response of every key and reed. Cherry Audio says the release samples and sustain pedal sounds are subtly randomized to avoid a static, repeated feel.

Tom Hammer's reference 140B served as the source, and the developer models the original preamp to shape the tone. Vibrato and tremolo are easy to reach, along with Tune, Hum and Velocity Curve controls, which let you adjust the character without digging through menus.

Effects and Presets for Electric Piano Work

The built-in effects are Tube Overdrive, Chorus, Rotator, Delay, Reverb and a seven-band graphic EQ. The developer also includes new algorithms for a 70s-style phaser and a LoFi effect with discrete vinyl and noise.

The instrument ships with 50 presets by sound designer James Terris, covering classic and modern tones. MIDI learn mapping and DAW automation give you full control of the parameters from your controller or sequencer.
