01Overview

ValveKult 3 is built around three valve configurations, labeled T, P1 and P2, which correspond to triode and pentode modes. Tone Empire says the plugin captures overdriven models from original hardware, so the same unit can move from gentle warmth to heavy distortion. Input and output controls, a link switch and filters for the signal path give you control over how the saturation is shaped.

Tube Saturation and Character

The core of ValveKult 3 is its tube processing. The Drive/Input control sets how hard the signal hits the valve stage, moving from subtle warmth to full saturation. The Tube Type selector changes the character between the triode and pentode configurations, and the Overdrive switch enables the overdriven hardware models for all three configurations.

The Output control handles level after the valve processing. The Link function ties drive and output together, so raising the gain can automatically compensate the output, which is useful for A/B comparisons.

Filters, Dry Mix and Ultra-X Mode

A high-pass filter from 20Hz to 2kHz sits before processing to manage low-end content, while a low-pass filter from 2kHz to 20kHz is applied after processing to control upper harmonics. A dry mix control lets you blend in the unprocessed signal for parallel processing.

Ultra-X mode uses high sample rate neural audio models sampled up to 192kHz, with oversampling intended to reduce aliasing at extreme settings. Developer Tone Empire describes this as its proprietary NM2 neural technology.
