01Overview

Model 5000 is part of Tone Empire's Enhanced Classics series, which takes inspiration from classic hardware and adds the flexibility modern producers and engineers expect. The plugin combines the ratio, attack and release behavior of a British console design with the KNOCK circuit from an American compressor. Its controllable low-end lift is aimed at adding weight to drums, mix buses and masters, and it can be set anywhere from subtle to heavily driven.

Best for

  • Drum compression

KNOCK circuit and low-end weight

Tone Empire says the KNOCK circuit from the American compressor design allows punchy low-end sidechain compression with a low-end lift the developer describes as unique in its range.

This is the main tool for adding weight to audio material. Because the compressor takes its ratio, attack and release times from the British model, you can shape dynamics and low end together rather than treating them as separate steps.

TransX saturation and oversampling

TransX is an input/output transformer option. When engaged, it adds transformer coloration and a solid-state style saturation to the circuit. The more input gain you feed it, the more drive you get, so it works as a character control as well as a corrective one.

Oversampling is user-selectable at off, 2x, 4x or 8x. Higher settings give a better frequency response and peak detection, at the cost of more CPU use. Tone Empire notes that the compressor is designed to be pushed hard, which is why oversampling is offered.
