01Overview

Twin 3 Upgrade from Twin 2 is aimed at existing owners of FabFilter Twin 2 who want the newer version of the synth. Twin 3 adds a fourth oscillator, a redesigned interface and a built-in effects section with reverb, delay, chorus, phaser/flanger, drive and compression. The upgrade also brings a full preset browser and an arpeggiator, and it keeps support for earlier Twin presets.

Sound Design and Filters in Twin 3

The oscillators and filters have been reworked, with built-in, analog-modeled drift added to the oscillator and filter sound. There are now four oscillators, and ring modulation is available for oscillators 1+2 and 3+4.

The four filters offer filter panning and adjustable slope and shape, including low, high and band pass, bell, low and high shelf, and notch. Large Filter Freq and Peak offset knobs adjust all filters at once and can be modulated too.

Polyphony is 64 voices with unison, and the envelope generators have new slope settings that open up a wider range of shapes.

Modulation, Workflow and Presets

The modulation system uses drag-and-drop connections and a 100-slot modulation matrix. Sources include 16-step XLFOs, XY controllers, envelope generators, envelope followers and MIDI sources. A Source Level control from -200% to 200% scales each source, and that setting can also be modulated.

Live modulation visualization shows the targets and sources as they move. Undo, redo and A/B switching are included, and the interface can be resized, shown in full screen and scaled.

The new preset browser supports tags, favorites and searching, and the factory presets include a curated set of sounds plus support for earlier Twin presets.
