01Overview

Automatic double tracking (ADT) was developed in 1966 to create the sound of a doubled performance without recording a part twice. Tape Double Track brings that technique into a digital plugin. It combines tape delay, oscillator-driven varispeed and adjustable modulation to add movement and width to a source. Independent channel controls let you shape the original and the doubled signal separately, and dedicated bass options keep the low end centered. It runs in DAWs and inside MPC standalone and desktop environments.

Tape ADT Sound and Character

Tape Double Track is built around the ADT process. A tape delay and an oscillator-driven varispeed create the small pitch variations and timing drift that make a doubled performance sound natural. The plugin's modulation section offers sine, triangle and random shapes, with an adjustable warp control. Lower warp settings give a smooth, vintage wobble, while higher settings produce a more evolving texture.

A randomize and recalibrate function emulates the unpredictability of tape playback, so each pass can sound slightly different. This suits vocals, guitars and synths where you want width and warmth without an obvious effect.

Channel Control and Low-End Options

The source and double channels each have independent pan, drive, mute, phase and level controls. This makes it possible to add gentle saturation to one channel, or push the doubled signal forward so it cuts through a dense mix. Phase control helps you manage how the two signals combine.

Bass Mono and Solo Bass toggles, with frequency control, let you keep the low end centered while the upper harmonics stay wide. Within an MPC or DAW session, the plugin can be used as an insert effect on any track.
