01Overview

Hybrid 3 is AIR Music Technology's high-definition software synth, the third generation of the Hybrid line. Each of its two parts carries three oscillators and a sub-oscillator, so you can layer, split or spread sounds across both. The developer describes the aim as pairing analog warmth with digital manipulation. Its patch browser lets you load two presets at once, one per part, for building multi-patch sounds.

Oscillators, Filters and Saturation for Classic and Modern Tones

Hybrid 3 offers nine oscillator modes, covering classic subtractive waveforms such as Saw Sync, Square Pulse Width Modulation and Saw Multi, a stack of seven saws in unison, as well as digital wavetable playback. The library includes 100 wavetables with up to 64 single-cycle waveforms each.

Each part has a pair of multi-mode filters that can run in series or in parallel, with DCF or vintage VCF models and 23 filter modes. The filter saturation section adds Overdrive, Distort, Hard Clip, Rectify, Bit Crush and Resample for everything from soft tube-style clipping to deliberate aliasing.

Modulation, Sequencing and Doubling Controls

Each part includes four LFOs, two monophonic, one polyphonic and a Pump LFO that imitates side-chain pumping. Pump can be routed to parameters beyond overall volume, such as pitch or filter settings. Four envelope editors cover the filter, amplitude and two additional modulation targets.

The Hype control adds sub-bass weight through Hype Low or shimmer through Hype High. Two Doubling knobs, one per part, widen and thicken patches, from a subtle effect to a full response. Revamped step sequencers let you link steps for rhythmic variation and advanced modulation patterns.
