01Overview

STARK is built as a complete tone-shaping rig: amplifier, cabinet, room and effects modules in one plugin. Each module processes audio separately, so you can pair any amp with any cabinet and room. Version 1.2.0 adds a built-in noise reduction stage based on Klevgrand's Brusfri, and the plugin ships with factory presets and a set of 30 new "Song starter" presets that use the newer pedals.

Amp, cabinet and room tone controls

The amplifier module offers 12 amp profiles, each with a clean and an overdrive channel, an equalizer with presence, and a booster that controls end-stage saturation.

The cabinet module provides 10 cabinets of different sizes and voicings, along with a stereo-width control that simulates the distance between two microphones placed in front of the speaker cone. The room module offers six room types, each adjustable between small, medium and large, with a decay control for wall reflectivity and a dry/wet mix.

Bypass switches for the amp and cab sections let you audition each stage on its own.

Pedalboard and built-in noise reduction

The pedalboard has four FX slots, and you can place any of the 17 pedals in them. Pedal order changes by drag and drop. The pedals cover distortion and overdrive, modulation, EQ, dynamics, delay and reverb. Three pedals are new in this version: Spinner (a rotary effect), Envelope Filter and a new Reverb.

STARK also includes a special version of Brusfri, Klevgrand's noise reducer. You play only the noise and press the ear control to let the plugin learn it, then Brusfri reduces that noise during playing. The developer notes that it works well on noisy pickups, preamps and rotating fans.
