01Overview

Stardust 201 Tape Echo is an echo effect that recreates the sound of vintage tape delay hardware. Cherry Audio builds it as a hot-rodded interpretation of the Roland Space Echo, bringing together features from the RE-201 and RE-301 units. Its tape simulation adds the limited fidelity and minor speed variations of real audio tape, which give repeats a warm, organic character. The plugin is offered as a crossgrade for owners of Mercury-4, and the full version is also available.

Tape Echo Sound and Character

Cherry Audio says Stardust precisely recreates the limited fidelity and stability of audio tape. The model rolls off bass and treble for a warm tone, and small speed variations give repeats a chorusing quality.

Pushing the intensity control overloads the circuit, producing runaway echoes and feedback. The plugin also includes a modeled input overdrive and a lush, true-stereo BBD chorus circuit.

The spring-style reverb and bass and treble EQ controls add further shaping options for the echo signal.

Workflow, Timing and Stereo Controls

Stardust offers seven virtual tape head modes and a 4x extended echo time range. An LFO echo time modulation section lets you move delay time over time.

The plugin can sync to the DAW master tempo, so repeats lock to your project timing. An exclusive motor kill switch is included for stopping the tape transport.

Independent stereo tape head loops are designed for wide imaging, and you can switch between mono and stereo modes depending on your signal.
