01Overview

Solid State Logic developed the Violet EQ as the first new SSL analogue EQ circuit in more than 25 years. The plugin uses four switched frequency points, +/- 9 dB of attenuation and the high-pass filter from the SSL Fusion hardware unit. A FAT button adds extra low-end weight when the high-pass filter is engaged. The developer built the model from hundreds of hardware measurements, and the plugin includes an ECO mode for lower latency and CPU use during tracking.

Sound and Control of the SSL Fusion Violet EQ

The developer says the EQ is built around carefully selected frequencies, response curves and gain limits. Its aim is an EQ that is musical and quick to set up in a mix.

The plugin includes the high-pass filter from the SSL Fusion hardware, with four switched frequency points and +/- 9 dB of attenuation. The FAT button is new in this version and adds a subtle boost to the low end when the high-pass filter is switched in.

Hundreds of measurements were used to match the response curves of the hardware at every gain and frequency, according to Solid State Logic.

Workflow Features and Presets

The built-in help is accessed through the '?' symbol, and hovering over the interface shows information about each parameter. Built-in undo and redo support is included.

ECO mode reduces latency and CPU use, which the developer recommends for tracking and recording. SSL's cross-platform preset management and A/B comparison system is included.

The plugin comes with presets from producers and engineers Adrian Hall, Sean Divine and Wez Clarke.
