SSL Native X-Phase: Frequency-Specific Phase Correction Plugin

Rated 4.7/5 on Plugin Boutique (922 ratings)

SSL Native X-Phase is an all-pass filter plugin from Solid State Logic that applies manual phase shifts at a chosen frequency without changing the signal's gain. It is built for correcting phase problems between microphones and for broader time alignment.

01Overview

X-Phase targets a common problem in multi-mic recording: a close mic and an overhead can cancel each other at certain frequencies. Instead of nudging tracks by hand, you pick the frequency that needs correction and shift its phase. Solid State Logic designed the plugin around a simple control set, so the adjustment stays focused on the band you choose. It runs as a 64-bit plugin on Windows and macOS and needs a free iLok account for authorization.

Frequency-Specific Phase Control

X-Phase is an all-pass filter, so it changes phase rather than the level of the frequencies you select. A Frequency control picks the band that needs a phase offset, and a Q control sets the slope of the correction curve across the signal. A phase invert button flips the phase 180 degrees when that is the fix you need.

The plugin can also build a comb filter by blending a filtered signal with an unfiltered copy of the same signal, which is useful for creative phase effects.

Delay and Channel Alignment

A separate Delay section applies to the whole signal for broader time alignment. The delay can be displayed and adjusted in milliseconds, samples, meters or feet, and dedicated buttons handle fine-tuning.

Left and right channels can be adjusted independently or together, which helps when a stereo source needs a different correction on each side.
