01Overview

Sprite is a multi-effects processor from AIR Music Technology, modeled on the multi-effects units producers used in studios during the 1980s and 1990s. It offers a simple macros interface for quick control of each effect, and a deeper edit mode for producers who want to shape every stage. The developer says Sprite can handle effects that a hardware unit cannot, and it works on synths, guitars and vocals alike. A large set of categorized presets gives a fast starting point before you adjust the sound.

Sound Shaping Across Distortion, Modulation and Space

Sprite's distortion section includes nine distortion models, with smoothing, high and low pass filtering and a mix control. The developer describes the range as going from light warmth to heavy breakup.

Two modulation slots cover eight classic types. The first slot offers Flutter, Wow, Tremolo and Auto-pan, with rate, drift, stereo and depth controls. The second slot offers Chorus, Multi-chorus, Phaser and Flanger, with rate, depth, feedback and mix controls.

The delay engine is BPM syncable and offers Single, Dual and Cross modes, with independent left and right time controls and 24 feedback setups. The reverb provides eight room characters, along with pre-delay, damp, time and volume controls.

Workflow, Routing and Output Control

Beyond effects, Sprite includes a pitch shifter with adjustable depth, an assignable mix target, interval and algorithm. It also has EQ sections with high and low cut and shelving controls, and a compressor with assignable routing, attack, release and depth.

An envelope follower can automatically control delay feedback and delay and reverb mix based on the level of the incoming audio. The output section adds width, balance, gain and a limiter, plus an output EQ with 31 character presets and a manual mode for low, mid and high shaping.
