01Overview

Spicerack is an effects plugin in the saturation category, built around five distinct harmonic distortion algorithms. PROCESS.AUDIO says the algorithms were developed and tuned to give producers and mixing engineers a wide range of colors, from subtle warmth to aggressive distortion. A linear phase design is aimed at blending dry and processed signals in parallel without phase issues, and a gate on the distorted path lets you shape the effect into more precise sound design tools.

Distortion Character and Parallel Saturation

Spicerack offers five harmonic distortion algorithms, each with a different character. The developer describes them as mastering grade and phase accurate, and designed to cover a broad palette for mixing and production.

The plugin uses linear phase technology carried over from PROCESS.AUDIO's earlier plugin Sugar. This is intended to keep the wet and dry signals coherent when you blend them, which makes Spicerack suited to parallel saturation on drums, bass and full mixes.

Workflow, Gain Staging and Controls

The interface is built to dial in saturation quickly. Auto gain compensation keeps the level consistent as you move the Drive control, so you can go from light saturation to heavy distortion without sudden level jumps.

An intuitive vertical linear phase EQ is included for shaping the sound. The gate on the distorted signal path can be used to morph the effect from conventional distortion toward more experimental sound design.

Console Remote lets you control all Spicerack instances from a single instance, which helps when you run the plugin across several tracks in a session.
