01Overview

This version is for customers who already own smart:EQ 3. It adds new features to the existing smart:EQ workflow, including group-based remote control, genre-based Mix Profiles and the ability to build custom profiles from reference tracks. The plugin uses sonible's smart:filter to balance tracks spectrally and to reduce masking between elements. The full version of smart:EQ 4 is also available separately.

Spectral Balance and Unmasking Across Tracks

The smart:filter analyzes each track and balances its spectrum against a chosen target profile, such as drums, bass, vocals or the default Universal Profile. Its cross-channel processing lets instances work together rather than in isolation.

In Group mode, you can arrange up to ten tracks into an unmasking hierarchy by dragging and dropping them. Elements can be set to the front, middle or background of the mix. The smart:filter can run in Track, Group, or Track & Group mode, depending on whether you want to balance the channel, only reduce masking, or do both.

Remote Control and Dynamic EQ Bands

In version 4, the instances in a group can be viewed and controlled from any single instance. Group View lets you select entire EQ curves for editing on screen and choose profiles for every instance.

Standard EQ bands now behave dynamically, with Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release and Range controls. These bands can be used alongside or in place of the main smart:filter bands, and the smart:filter also gains a Smoothing parameter for gentler filtering.
