01Overview

SkyDust 3D is built around placing sound in three-dimensional space. Each note can be positioned, moved and shaped over time, with output routed to stereo, binaural headphone playback or multichannel and Ambisonics setups. The synth pairs eight oscillators per voice with FM operators, filters, effects and a sequencer that can pan individual steps in 3D. Sound Particles also includes a trial, so you can check how the engine handles your own monitoring setup before buying.

Spatial Sound Design and Movement Control

SkyDust 3D treats position as a sound design parameter. Each oscillator can have its own starting point, divergence and movement, and the 3D position envelope generator lets a note travel through several positions over time. A 3D LFO controls azimuth and elevation with independent depth settings, and eleven movement modifiers provide ready-made motions such as rotation, oscillation and floating.

For visual feedback, the plugin offers several 3D views, including 360, rear, top and spherical displays, so you can see where sound is moving within the mix.

Synthesis Engine, FM Operators and Modulation

Each voice has eight oscillators that can be used for subtractive, FM or hybrid synthesis. The FM section provides eight operators with a matrix for custom connections and an operator view that diagrams the current routing. Each operator exposes ratio or fixed frequency, detune, modulation gain and feedback.

Modulation is handled by 40 envelope generators and 40 LFOs per voice, with envelope types ranging from AR to DAHDSR. Eight macros with custom curves let you map several parameters to one control. The arpeggiator offers seven patterns and an octave range from -2 to +2, and the sequencer runs up to 128 steps with a keyboard editor and polyphonic step entry.
